Welcome to our first Rosie In Action profile of 2025! The women of Rosie are out in our community, making a difference in their organizations, serving on boards, living into their passions, and positively impacting the world around them. We want to share their stories with you. Angie Mullings is an energized leader with impressive experience in the real estate industry and plugging into her local community to make a difference. Read below to get to know Angie, her career, community involvement, and advice for fellow Rosies.
Who is Angie?
Originally from Pleasant Hope, I once envisioned a future in the fashion industry. However, I quickly realized that pursuing that dream would require leaving Southwest Missouri—a place I wasn’t ready to part with. Instead, after earning a business degree, I obtained my real estate license, setting the stage for what would become a deeply fulfilling career.
In 2007, I took a leap of faith and purchased the brokerage where I had been working, navigating the challenges of the recession to build a highly respected boutique firm with two offices. At my core, I am an entrepreneur and real estate broker, but my passion for leadership and growth has expanded my reach beyond real estate. Today, I share my experience as a speaker, podcaster, leadership trainer, and strategic planner, traveling across the country to help organizations cultivate strong leaders and plan for the future.
My dedication to community runs deep. Over the years, I’ve been involved in advocacy efforts, served on boards of directors, and even founded a Chamber of Commerce in my hometown. I believe giving back isn’t just an opportunity—it’s a responsibility we should all embrace.
What has your leadership journey within the real estate industry been like? How has your involvement at the local, regional, and national level influenced your career and leadership style?
When asked why they got involved, most people would likely say it was because someone asked them—and that was exactly the case for me. A fellow broker encouraged me to step up and get involved, and that first step led me to serve as Vice President of the Women’s Council of REALTORS®. From that moment on, I was hooked. I wanted to immerse myself in every aspect of the industry.
I went on to serve as President of the Women’s Council of REALTORS®, then continued my leadership journey, ultimately becoming President of the Greater Springfield Board of REALTORS®. Along the way, my involvement expanded to Missouri REALTORS® and the National Association of REALTORS®, where I’ve had the privilege of serving on various committees and chairing a few. These experiences have given me a profound understanding of our industry—insight I could never have gained by simply working as a broker behind a desk.
One of the most transformative experiences in my journey was completing the Leadership Academy at the state level. It challenged me, changed me, and shaped me into a more thoughtful leader—one who is passionate about inspiring others to grow, push their limits, and reach their full potential. It also gave me the confidence to pursue new passions and share my experiences in meaningful ways to help others on their own journeys.
Tell us about your podcast, Simply Authentic Podcast! How did it start, how has it evolved, and what do you hope listeners get out of it?
Nearly two years ago, my podcast began over a simple coffee meeting with a fellow broker and a mutual friend. At the time, both of us had reached a point where our brokerages were running smoothly, and we were eager for a new challenge. We wanted to find a platform where we could share our combined experience, leverage our connections, and provide valuable insights to help others learn, grow, and become more engaged in their communities.
As avid podcast listeners and natural collaborators, the idea quickly became clear—why not start our own podcast? Within five months of that conversation, we launched our show. What made it truly unique was that two brokers, often seen as competitors, came together to collaborate on a shared project. In an industry where brokers typically maintain friendly but separate spheres, we chose to color outside the lines, taking a chance on something different.
Since then, we’ve delivered content that impacts our entire community, covering topics such as mental health awareness, healthy living, entrepreneurship, public education, and even our local trail systems. We’ve explored a wide range of subjects, but as we move into 2025, we’re narrowing our focus to what we know best—real estate and leadership. Our goal is to become the go-to professionals in these areas, the trusted voices that others turn to for guidance, insight, and expertise.
What inspired you to get involved in civic service, serving on city boards and commissions? What have you learned from those experiences?
I was fortunate to grow up surrounded by people who instilled in me the importance of giving back. To me, serving my community was never a question—it was simply a way of life. The key, I’ve learned, is discovering where your passions align with your talents and using them to make the greatest impact.
People often ask me, “How do you do it all?” The truth is, you make time for what matters. I’ve always been driven to learn more about my community, to understand the bigger picture, and to see beyond my immediate surroundings. We don’t live in a bubble. It’s essential to look outward, recognize opportunities for growth, and find ways to make a meaningful difference.
Why do you believe it’s important for women to get involved in leadership roles in their communities and industries?
My grandmother grew up in rural Missouri, where working on the family farm took precedence over finishing school. There was a time when she didn’t even have the right to vote. Knowing that women were once denied the opportunity to work, vote, or have a voice makes me deeply grateful for the freedoms I have today—and determined never to take them for granted.
While true equality is still a work in progress, the opportunities available to women today are greater than ever. But progress doesn’t happen on its own. It takes each of us doing our part to
pave the way.
A piece of advice or inspiration for fellow Rosies thinking about joining a board or committee, or starting a passion project?
I’ve come to realize that fear is often the greatest barrier standing in our way. We let the fear of not fitting in, not being enough, not being qualified, or lacking the right background or training hold us back from reaching our full potential. But we shouldn’t.
Don’t. Let. It.
One of my favorite quotes by Jennifer Lee perfectly captures this mindset: “Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire.” Embrace that fire, push past the doubt, and step boldly into the life you’re meant to live.
