For 28 years, Leadership Academy has connected 32 participants with business leaders and community organizations while giving them a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of our city.

One Class 27 participant reflected on the last year by sharing: “Over the course of the year, the two speakers that influenced me the most were Andy Kuntz with Andy’s Frozen Custard and Black Sheep owner, Mike Jalili.  These two speakers didn’t necessarily relate to my actual career choice, but they influenced my mindset and how I viewed my future.  They both centered their focus on one thing, not success or money, but instead on happiness.  They both stressed the importance of happiness, love and comfort within your occupation and that true success (and money) come from love and enjoyment of what you do.   Finding the balance is key to success.”

The Leadership Academy is open to juniors from nine Springfield public and private high schools as well as homeschool students who reside within the Springfield Public Schools district. The past two years our selection committee has reviewed blind applications from the area’s most promising incoming juniors, and the overwhelming response from this committee was that this year was the hardest selection process to date.

Congratulations to the 32 students selected that will make up Leadership Academy Class 28:
