Are you looking to get plugged in with Leadership Springfield?

Every year in June, we have a number of committee roles open for alumni each year, and we invite you to serve if you see a fit for your interests and strengths. Consider being a class advisor or join a LeadSGF committee for the upcoming program year. Our alumni advisors and committee members are vital to the success of the community leadership programs we provide. We have opportunities that meet once a year and others that are more frequent. Check out the alumni committee and advisor opportunities and let us know if you are interested in any volunteer advisor or committee role for our upcoming programming year (July 2021-June 2022).

Volunteer roles are filled by Board members and Leadership Springfield program alumni. These roles include:

  • Signature Class Advisor
    • The role of the Signature Class Advisors is to provide guidance and mentorship to Signature Class participants, serving as program day advisor for a specific group. Signature Class Advisors may be assembled together at the request of the Signature Class Chair or Executive Director and asked to attend pre-program training, meeting, opening retreat program day planning session, program day planning meetings through program year and program day.
    • Estimated meetings per year: 6-8.
  • Academy Advisor
    • The role of the Academy Class Advisors is to provide guidance and mentorship to Academy Class participants, serving as program day advisor for a specific group. Academy Class Advisors may be assembled together at the request of the Academy Class Chair or Executive Director and asked to attend pre-program training, orientation,  opening retreat program day planning session, program day planning meetings through program year and program day. Academy Advisor(s) work in teams to support students, providing professional advice, support and expert guidance.
    • Estimated meetings per year: 6-8.
  • Academy Student Mentor
    • The role of the Academy Student Mentors is to provide guidance and mentorship to current Leadership Academy students, relating to their Leadership Academy experience as well as real life advice as they explore colleges and prepare to go into their senior year of high school. Student mentors serve a one year role as finalists of the previous year Leadership Academy scholarship. Mentors may be assembled together at the request of the Academy Chair or Executive Director and/or asked to attend current class orientation and retreat.
    • Estimated meetings per year: 2-3.
  • Access Committee Member
    • The role of this group is to actively participate in a quarterly effort to recruit area professionals to the Access Class. Members will be asked to make phone calls, send electronic communication and/or face to face visits to follow up on staff recruiting.
    • Estimated meetings per year: 4.
  • Finance Advisor
    • The role of the Finance Advisors is to provide financial advising to the staff, review the financial management policy, and assess responsibilities and performance of the ‘triangle’ of financial duties, including but not limited to all staff, treasurer, and accounting firm. Finance Advisors may be assembled together for Finance Committee meetings at the request of the Executive Committee or Executive Director.
    • Estimated meetings per year: 4.
  • Curriculum & Evaluation Advisor
    • Curriculum & Evaluation Advisors develop and implement learning outcomes and curriculum to ensure consistent delivery across all Leadership Springfield programs. The committee creates evaluation tools to support all facets of the Leadership Springfield organization. This committee meets prior to program year to plan content of program retreats and program days, updating program objectives and serving as advisor to program chairs. Convene to analyze program evaluation data to make recommendations, when appropriate, for revisions to programming. With experience with or knowledge of teaching/learning objectives, curriculum design, facilitation and/or evaluation tools for continuous improvement of programming, Advisors may together or individually develop curriculum for programs, as designated by Executive Committee or Executive Director and approved by the Board, to ensure consistency with learning outcomes and delivery across all Leadership Springfield programs. Curriculum & Evaluation Advisors may be assembled together at the request of the Executive Committee or Executive Director or may be contacted on a per project basis.
    • Estimated meetings per year: 6.
  • Alumni Committee Member
    • Alumni Committee Members are responsible for ensuring alumni from all programs and years are engaged and knowledgeable of events. Alumni Committee Members help plan the annual reunion and provide planning and onsite event support for alumni engagement events. Alumni Committee Members are asked to attend 3-4 alumni events per year and promote annual alumni membership drive.
    • Estimated meetings per year: 6.
  • DEI Advisor
    • The role of the DEI Advisors is to support the organization’s strategic inclusive excellence implementation, audit programs, communication and infrastructure, and build a DEI plan. DEI Advisors may be assembled together at the request of the Executive Committee or Executive Director or may be contacted on a per project basis.
    • Estimated meetings per year: 6.
  • Development Advisor
    • The role of the Development Advisors is to identify and support development efforts of the organization, to include but not limited to sponsorship follow up, major donor program development, grants and prospecting. Development Advisors may be assembled together at the request of the Executive Committee or Executive Director or may be contacted on a per project basis.
    • Estimated meetings per year: 1-2.
  • Communication Advisor
    • The role of the Communications Advisors is to assist the staff with project-based work, including graphic design, writing, video and public relations. Communications Advisors provide communications and marketing expertise, including creation of materials, marketing strategies and content.  Communication Advisors may be assembled together at the request of the Executive Committee or Executive Director or may be contacted on a per project basis.
    • Estimated meetings per year: 1-2.
  • Needs Task Force Member
    • The role of the Needs group members is to assess opportunities where leadership could be applied to make our community better and to strategically consider new programs to for implementation. The Needs Task Force may be assembled together at the request of the Executive Committee or Executive Director or may be contacted on a per project basis.
    • Estimated meetings per year: 1-2.
